The Legend of Pavla Blanca
The Natives of New Mexico believe that the White Sands are visited by the ghost of Pavla Blanca.
The legend begins with her being engaged to a Spanish conquerer who left on an excavation for a town full of treasures.
During his exploration, he was ambushed by warrior Apaches at the White Sands, and even with all the Spanish troops fighting hard to win, he was severely wounded. Eventually he could no longer survive and was buried by the always shifting dunes, never to be found.
It is said that every night, the beautiful Spanish maiden comes to the sands to look for her lover. She is dressed in a wedding gown and haunts the sands in hopes of finding her beloved. There have been many sights of strange white, wispy shadows. Whether it is the wind blowing the sands or the ghost of Pavla Blanca, come and experience this magical legend yourself!
